Aspen

From its early roots as a silver mining camp, through the growth of four world-class ski resorts in the area, and the town's reputation as a cultural mecca hotspot; Aspen has always been known for the beauty of the surroundings and variety of activities that are found there. The Maroon Bells, Independence Pass, or the Frying Pan River; the physical beauty of the valley is beyond compare. The Wheeler Opera House, the Hotel Jerome, and Ski Lift #1; are just some of the man-made attractions of local note in Aspen as well.

Obviously, skiing is the primary sport that people associate with Aspen and Snowmass; and with it, the huge popularity of its cousin on the snow - snowboarding. But, a vacation to Aspen offers a wide range of opportunities and experiences to explore and not to be missed. Whatever your vacation plans; holiday ski package, family trip, anniversary, weekend college reunion, going fishing/hiking/biking, attending one of the local art festivals, or to watch the local rugby team the "Gentlemen of Aspen"; the Aspen/Snowmass resorts are the perfect hosts for whatever type of leisure time you're planning. Four distinct seasons, four unique resorts, and with countless leisure undertakings available to you; there is no doubt that Aspen is a complete vacation destination. As the Aspen Skiing Company advertises, "experience the Power of Four."

Breckenridge

Even the biggest skiing fanatic needs a break from the slopes now and then and for those who aren't into nightly bar-hopping, Breckenridge offers plenty of arts and culture attractions and activities for the traveler who enjoys arts-related fun.

Music is abundant in Breckenridge and not just in the bars, restaurants, and clubs. The annual Breckenridge Summer Music Festival serves up music of all genres at events including a yearly Battle of the Bands and concerts by top-name entertainers. The local National Repertory Orchestra offers concerts and special events throughout the summer as well, performing everything from Brahms to Blues.

For a little education on Breckenridge's mining history, take some time to visit the Country Boy Mine, where guests can learn about Colorado's rich mining industry, take an underground tour of a gold mine, pan for gold, and enjoy a sleigh ride in the winter and hayride in the summer months.

Visitors can also explore the state's 2nd oldest museum, the Edwin Carter Museum, which provides a history of Breckenridge, and the Summit County Historical Society offers guided walking tours of the downtown area as well.

Art lovers will adore the annual summer arts festival, which has been taking place for more than two decades, as well as the vast number of art galleries in town, many featuring artwork, furniture, and handicrafts designed by talented local artists.

There's also the local Backstage Theater, which presents a full season of plays, musical reviews, and workshops.
